The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays-- neighborhood parades, kids riding bikes trailing red, white and blue streamers, chilled desserts made with ripe berries, (the recipe for the one pictured above from Ina Garten), and fireworks. Especially when there's a band playing "It's a Grand Old Flag" or "The Star Spangled Banner," my eyes well up with tears at least once during the celebrations. The whole idea of liberty and the pursuit of happiness is a gift, one we can lose sight of in light of the challenges we face as a country.
So, in honor of this holiday, I'm re-purposing that all-American pass time, Twitter. I asked myself what I can do on a daily basis for you readers, and for the students in my career seminars. I came up a quick daily tip that might motivate, cheer, or guide you. If one doesn't apply to you perhaps you can pass it on to someone who is looking for a job or building a business.
During July I will post Job-IQ Tips on Twitter, @JobIQMolly, or you can find them in the right-hand column of the homepage, here. Let me know what you think. Helpful? Annoying? And your ideas for new ones are most welcome!
Creating a life's work pays the bills, develops your capabilities, connects you to a team of professionals, and gives you a vehicle to participate in our democracy. Meaningful work = independence. Three cheers for the red, white, and blue!
