TEDxBethesda Women is almost sold out. As you have read previously, I have the honor of serving as emcee for this event, to be held at Imagination Stage on December 5. This is my last post featuring some of the nine remarkable women who will speak.
I'm particularly excited to hear Ellie Giles (pictured above) because she is a dear friend. I've had a front row seat watching her create an encore career. So many of us baby boomers will have to figure out the next stage of life, and Ellie is a pioneer charting the territory for us. She is an avid believer in expanding horizons and stretching your abilities on a daily basis to ensure the vitality of life. A can-do person with lots of energy, Dr. Giles has supported many women through career transitions and navigating new possibilities and directions for life-long growth and actualization. As her second career, Dr. Ellie Giles serves as Director of Operations of Montgomery Business Development (MBDC) Corporation, the first public/private economic development agency in Montgomery County.

Dr. DeRionne P. Pollard
Because of her extraordinary reputation as an educator, I am very excited to meet Dr. Pollard. She serves as president of Montgomery College, a three-campus community college in Montgomery County, Maryland. In this role, she oversees the education and student services for 60,000 credit and noncredit students. Dr. Pollard assumed leadership of Montgomery College on August 2, 2010, following a national search by the College’s Board of Trustees. At her inauguration, Dr. Pollard launched the Montgomery College Innovation Fund to inspire faculty and staff to develop new ideas for educating students. Private funding through the Montgomery College Foundation supports the fund.
