This is my second post about TEDxBethesda Women! I hope you are planning to join us at Imagination Stage on December 5. Nine incredible women will share stories that motivate, educate, and entertain. I've been invited to emcee and look forward to meeting the women below, and those I previewed in a previous post. I hope I see you there too!
Meet Fly Girl (Vernice Armour, pictured above)
Vernice says, "When I was flying in the middle of combat and needed to engage the enemy, we had to ask for permission to shoot our weapons. The magical phrase we needed to hear in order to protect the Marines and Soldiers on the ground was ‘Cleared Hot.’ As you’re reading this, I’d bet it’s safe to say you’re probably on a different type of battlefield. Maybe for you it’s combat in corporate America, you’re a teacher in today’s classroom, or you’re an administrative professional in a large association. Whatever your situation, you probably have challenges that you would like to effectively destroy!" (mm: I love her story, and I can't wait to hear more from Fly Girl.)
Kate Campbell Stevenson
Kate combines over 25 years of professional experience in music, theater and education to create Women: Back to Future. She has starred in over 30 Broadway musicals produced in regional theaters across the United States, including Camelot, Carousel, My Fair Lady, The King and I, Show Boat, Music Man and I Do! I Do!, as well as performing in radio and TV commercials. In her one-woman show, Kate brings to life historical women with can-do attitudes. Her act has inspired audiences from the poorest rural schools in South Carolina to the fanciest prep schools in LA, from small county fairs to the National Theatre and The Office of the President in Washington, D.C., and from state and national convention halls to renowned college and civic auditoriums. (mm: I hope she sings!)
